Notes |
- For an introduction to Reporting Services, please watch
the SQL
Server Reporting Services 2005 Tutorial before this video.
- For more information on using OfficeWriter, please refer
to their online documentation and samples:
http://docs.softartisans.com/OfficeWriterWindows/3.0.3/ExcelWriterASP/default.aspx
- This video covers the following tasks:
- Write a SQL query to retrieve data from a database
- Create a SSRS .rdl report using this data, returning a
matrix view
- Open the .rdl file in Excel using OfficeWriter and create
a Pivot Chart and Pivot Table
- Deploy and View the report using Reporting Services, and
rendering the report in Excel with live data.
- Add a parameter to the original Reporting Services report
using a separate data source
- Revisiting the original report, showing how Excel now
prompts the user for the requested parameter prior to rendering the Pivot
Table and Pivot Chart

I've got a similar video showing how it's done in 2008. The new Report builder 2.0 is pretty sweet.
