Inside the Book and Recommendations

Chapter 1 provides a basic overview of Content Management Systems and that of e107 in general. Chapter 2 examines the installation procedure in a step-by-step manner with the help of plenty of screenshots. Towards the end of the chapter the author explores the different ways to troubleshoot certain installation problems which occurs commonly. I hope this portion will help beginners who are not well versed with the PHP and MySQL.

While chapter 3 examines the various options found in both the front and back end areas of the default e107 site including a reference regarding creation of a dynamic FrontPage, Chapter 4 provides a nice coverage of customizing an e107 site with themes. The author covers the file upload manager in this chapter and I feel that it is not required as it has nothing to do with customization.

Chapters 5, 6, 7, and 8 exhaustively cover the usage of various plug-ins such as: Banner, Shopping cart, FAQ, Forum, Poll, Content Management, Newsletter, Event calendar and RSS. I would suggest that the author provide the different ways in which users can customize the content system as it is one of the most important and widely used plug-ins.

The concluding chapter shortly covers maintenance, optimization, and security related aspects involved with e107 package. The book also includes an appendix which lists some of the useful sites running under e107 CMS. The author also elaborates the necessary resources for running e107 on a Windows platform which I hope will be useful for Windows OS savvy readers although the majority of users run it under Linux.
